چکیده

One-tap frequency-domain equalization (FDE) based on the minimum mean square error (MMSE) criterion can significantly improve the bit error rate (BER) performance of single-carrier (SC) transmission in a frequency-selective fading channel. However, a big performance gap from the theoretical lower bound still exists due to the presence of residual inter-symbol interference (ISI) after MMSE-FDE. In this paper, we point out that the frequency-domain received SC signal can be expressed using the matrix representation similar to the multiple-input multipleoutput (MIMO) multiplexing and therefore, signal detection schemes developed for MIMO multiplexing, other than simple one-tap MMSE-FDE, can be applied to SC transmission. Then, for the reception of SC signals, we propose a new signal detection scheme, which combines FDE with MIMO signal detection, such as MMSE detection and Vertical-Bell Laboratories layered space-time architecture (V-BLAST) detection (we call this frequency-domain block signal detection). The achievable average BER performance using the proposed frequency-domain block signal detection is evaluated by computer simulation. key words: single-carrier, frequency-domain equalization, MMSE, VBLAST

Single-Carrier Frequency-Domain Equalization for Orthogonal STBC over Frequency-Selective MIMO-PLC channels

In this paper we propose a new space diversity scheme for broadband PLC systems using orthogonal space-time block coding (OSTBC) transmission combined with single-carrier frequency-domain equalization (SC-FDE). To apply this diversity technique to PLC channels, we first propose a new technique for combining SC-FDE with OSTBCs applicable to all dispersive multipath channels impaired by impulsive...

Transmission Performance of Frequency-Domain Filtered Single-Carrier Transmission Using Frequency-Domain Block Signal Detection with QRM-MLD

Recently, assuming ideal brick-wall transmit filtering, we proposed a frequency-domain block signal detection (FDBD) with maximum likelihood detection employing QR decomposition and M-algorithm (called QRM-MLD) for the reception of single-carrier (SC) signals transmitted over a frequency-selective fading channel. QR decomposition (QRD) is applied to a concatenation of the propagation channel an...

Frequency-Domain Block Signal Detection with QRM-MLD for Training Sequence-Aided Single-Carrier Transmission

A frequency-domain block signal detection (FDBD) using QR decomposition with M-algorithm maximum likelihood detection (QRM-MLD) can significantly improve the bit error rate (BER) performance of the cyclic prefix inserted single-carrier (CP-SC) block transmission in a frequency-selective fading channel. However, the use of a fairly large number of the surviving paths is required in the M-algorit...

Generalized Frequency-Domain Filtered Single-Carrier Signal Transmission

Abstract Single-carrier (SC) transmission is a transmission equipped with frequency-domain equalization (FDE) is suitable for uplink transmission because of its low peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) property. Square-root Nyquist filtering is widely used, where the filter shape is controlled by the roll-off factor  from 0 to 1. Nyquist filtering with =1 occupies twice bandwidth of the origina...

On the Block Size Design for Single Carrier Overlap Frequency Domain Equalization

In this paper, we propose, based on the analytical analysis of the received signal for single carrier overlap frequency domain equalizer (SC-OFDE) equalization, an optimum design of the overlap frequency domain equalization. From the estimation of the received signal-to-interference-and-noise-ratio (SINR), we propose an algorithm that automatically adapts one important parameter of the OFDE equ...
